DESCRIPTION:
Tom Theuns made his debut on the Antwerp rock scene, where he went on to graduate cum laude from the Jazz Studio. He has visited Brittany many times to study open tuning guitar techniques as well as travelling to northern India to study Indian classical music with sitar player, pandit Batuk Nath Mishra.

Not only is Theuns the driving force behind the internationally acclaimed bands Ambrozijn and Aurélia, he has also worked with Think Of One, Urban Trad, Laïs, Vera Coomans, Nada, Olla Vogala, Soetkin Collier, Dakar-Bruxelles-Dakar and Living Roots. Recently he has been giving solo performances following the release of his solo album 'Songs from the river'. It's no coincidence that, together with violinist Aurélie Dorzée, he is also an owner of the concert barge, the 'Aurelia Feria'.

'Freight Train' is a classic American folk song written in the early 1900s and popularised during the American folk revival of the 1950s and 1960s. Elizabeth Cotten wrote the song as a teenager, inspired by the sound of the trains rolling past on the tracks near her home in North Carolina.

Op 15-jarige leeftijd debuteerde Tom Theuns in de antwerpse rockscene en speelde o.a met Stef Camil Karlens en Tom Barman. Daarop volgde hij jazzstudio waar hij met grote onderscheiding afstudeerde. Vervolgens trok hij talloze keren naar Bretagne om zich te vervolmaken in de open tuning gitaar waar hij in vlaanderen als pionier wordt beschouwd. In India studeerde hij ook enkele maanden sitar bij pandit Batuk Nath Mishra.

Hij is de bezielende kracht achter Ambrozijn en Aurélia maar is ook een veelgevraagd gitarist/zanger o.a bij Laïs, Vera Coomans, Nada, Olla Vogala, Soetkin Collier, Gabriel Yacoub, Kris Debruyne, Dakar- Bruxelles-Dakar, Think Of One, Tatave, Grijsland, Living Roots, Urban Trad, ... en gaat sinds kort ook met een soloprogramma de baan op . Daarnaast is hij ook kapitein van het concertschip « Aurélia Feria ».

"Freight Train" is een Amerikaanse Folk klassieker uit de vroege 20e eeuw die tijdens de folkrevival in de jaren '50 en '60 enorm populair werd. Als teenager schreef Elizabeth Cotten het nummer, refererend naar de treinen die voorbij haar huis in Noord Carolina tsjoekten.

Tom Theuns a débuté à l'âge de quinze ans dans la scène rock Anversoise et a joué entre autre avec Stef Camil Carlens et Tom Barman. Après il a obtenu un graduat avec grande distinction au Jazz Studio (Anvers) avec Peter Hertmans et Pierre Van Dormael comme professeurs. Il a voyagé de nombreuses fois en Bretagne pour étudier la guitare DADGAD et en Inde du Nord pour étudier la musique raga avec le joueur de sitar pandit Batuk Nath Mishra.

Il est fondateur d'Ambrozijn et d'Aurélia mais il a aussi collaboré avec Think Of One, Urban Trad, Laïs, Vera Coomans, Nada, Olla Vogala, Soetkin Collier, Dakar- Bruxelles-Dakar, Living Roots et suivant la sortie de son album « Songs from the River » donne aussi des spectacles en solo. Avec Aurélie Dorzée il est aussi propriétaire de la péniche-théâtre Aurélia Feria.

"Freight Train" est un folk américain classique du début du 20ème siècle qui devint extrêmement populaire durant le renouveau folklorique des années 50 et 60. Elizabeth Cotten écrivit cette chanson durant son adolescence, inspirée par les trains qui passaient devant sa maison en Caroline du Nord.
