Artist Biography: Over the last decade these five gentlemen have been rampaging their way through quite a few festivals, and the locals are still trying to recover. They've also supported tons of great bands such The Dillinger, Escape Plan, Boris and The Bled and even managed to realize one of their dreams, playing with their friends Refused, a band who have had a big influence on their previous work.
But the little brothers have worked their way up and here they are, for their third album: Knives & Bells.
More mature? More precise? Better execution? An American-like production made in France? - No f*cking way!
Everything but. SNA-FU shall defend their badge of honor. Ring the bells, sharpen your knives, beat the drum, add some distortion, the Grand Desordre Orchestre is back at the top of its game.
So, what's new then? - Style!
From the very start of the album, the scene is set with the well-named song "Furious & Fast", a dirty and noisy engine that sounds like Die Hard's John McClane's getting up again after the fourth explosion of a day that started so well. It's aggressive, grainy and scrapes at the eardrum.
This album has a sound, created through an intense experimental process led by Francis Caste in Sainte Marthe studio, that will hit you right on the nose, and hard.
In a collision of tradition and modernity - no, this is not exclusive to shrines in Tokyo -- you'll hear acoustic guitars getting used and abused through distorted amps screaming out, and an enormous drum beating them up.
Next comes the surprising sea shanty, "You Don't Like This Song", an ear-worm that will get inside your head again and again (and again).
The listener goes on his journey from the mosh-pit to infinity and beyond with refreshing tracks, "That's all I got" and "All in", and then is confronted with violent swing in, "I'll give you money", a reference to the Blues myth of the devil in the crossroad.
Clement frees himself from regular vocal codes of Hardcore, redefines his role and even finds a way to pour out his emotions in "I hate Berlin" and "Catrina", a ballad with shackled feet, walking through ruined Mayan temples.
Influences dissolve, references emerge, from 70's rock prog of "Clairvoyant", to the legend of king Leonidas in "Rising", the epic conclusion of "Knives & Bells".
This album is an invitation to war, prepare for battle. See you in the pit.
