Victor Victrola XVII in Walnut, Hallelujah I'm a bum - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 23, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Last winter (2015-16) I undertook my first rebuild and restoration of a VV-XVII in walnut.(1921 model) I had hoped to work on a simpler machine like a XX-IV, but how else do you learn but head on. OK, so I had read some books (compleat talking machine) and followed many threads on "Talking Machine Forum", as well as others, and decided to bring this machine back to life. The reproducer was in bad shape (total rebuild) and a broken spring in the 4 spring motor, but isn't that part of the fun? or should I say all of it? My restoration consisted of those rebuilds, and a thorough cleaning of the cabinet. I didn't fill in minor wood working issues, as I like to have some of the age still showing on the machines. I did , however, clean and re shellac to preserve the machine till I can pass it on to the next caretaker. The information in the video was taken from "Look for the Dog" and "The Victor Data Book" by Robert W. Baumback. I highly recommend these books and of course "The Antique Phonograph Society" to help you in your journey to discovery. Thank you for watching, and of course, feel free to critique.......please remember to keep it civil. Thanks
