The Today show ushered in a new era this day with the introduction of the brilliant, beautiful and multi-talented Savannah Guthrie. I love and greatly admire Ann and was very sorry to see her go, but I believe the execs got this right in spite of the 45 caliber hole in their foot.

In this video piece Savannah talks about how her Mom had bought her a guitar and she had taught herself to play --- and it shows (just the perfect measure of self-deprecation). She then goes on to talk about her love for Shawn Colvin and her music and how amazing and underrated her guitar playing is. Again, surprising stuff. And you've got to love that your national-morning-news-program co-anchor, plays guitar and digs Dylan! . . .

Shawn is one of those rare spirits that you love --- immediately --- no questions asked. You can feel her camaraderie with all of our favorite, "you-tore-my-heart-out-and-stomped-that-sucker-flat" artists.

Someone at 30 Rock deserves a big Bob-bonus for this idea.

Oh yeah, I love seeing the smiles on all of the faces during Shawn's performance. And the zoom into Al's snappy argyles and saddles, tappin' out that fat groove --- soooo fine!
