The Custom Bridge Clips Start @ 6:08

Hey I'm www.RobbyLapp.com and I wanted to make a video showing Seymour Duncan's Antiquity ii - Surfer for Strat Pickups and include clips of BOTH bridge pickups available, the Standard and Custom Bridge.

The Mic Placement, Amp Settings, and Everything Else, (Including the Strings) were kept the same in both recordings.

Gear Used:

Guitar - 1995 American Fender Stratocaster

Amp - 2001 (Original 3 Channel) Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier in Bold and Vacuum Tube Rectifier settings; Clean - Channel 1. Dirty - Channel 2 Vintage Mode

Cab - 2X12 Open Back Mesa Boogie Rectifier with Celestion Vintage 30's

Reverb - TC Electronic - Hall of Fame (Plate)

Mics - Shure SM57 (Close Mic); Audio Technica 2020 (Room Mic)

Software - Logic Pro, Quicktime, Waves L1 UltraMaximizer

Interface - Apogee Duet 2

...and of course Seymour Duncan's Lovely Antiquity ii Pickups.

Personally, I prefer the Standard Pickup in the Bridge as opposed to the hotter Custom but it's a 100% personal preference and I also have a tone pot wired to the bridge pickup, which is not your traditional strat wiring.

Compared to the SSL1's and SSL5's, The Surfers are softer around the edges so to speak, and in my opinion possess more vibe. That is probably due to two factors: The aging process which weakens the magnets, and they are also "unpotted" meaning, not dipped in wax. The SSL's are potted.

PICKUP HEIGHT IS VERY IMPORTANT AND SHOULD BE ADJUSTED LAST: ADJUST YOUR NECK TRUSS ROD FIRST, THEN YOUR STRING ACTION, THEN PICKUP HEIGHT.

If you want the best set up, I suggest getting a 6" engineering ruler that measures down to 1/64" and when you measure your pickup height, fret the highest fret when you measure the string distance from the magnet post. 1/16" is a good starting point for pickup height.

I hope this helps!

Genuinely,
