'Scott of the Antarctic' (1948) - Vaughan Williams's original film music excerpts - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 25, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
Vaughan Williams's music for "Scott of the Antarctic" (1948) was played on the soundtrack by the Philharmonia Orchestra under Ernest Irving. They also simultaneously recorded a 78rpm disc (heard here) of themes from the film, some of which later found their way into Vaughan Williams's "Sinfonia Antartica" (his 7th Symphony). Note: the old 78 is very scratchy! It was recorded on 30 December 1948 in EMI Studio 1, Abbey Road, London, and is of course in the 'public domain'.
