Great God! This Is An Awful Place - Bond Street Bridge live at the Wine Cellar - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 11, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
On the 17th of January 1912, Captain Robert Falcon Scott arrived at the South Pole to discover Roald Amundsen's Norwegian team had beaten them by thirty-four days. One hundred and one years later, Auckland-based alt-folk band Bond Street Bridge teamed up with artist Emily Cater to produce 'The Explorers Club: Antarctica,' a multi-media story-song cycle commemorating the heroic age of Antarctic exploration.

In February and March of 2013, Bond Street Bridge toured the show on 25 dates around their native New Zealand, appearing in the Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin Fringe Festivals to packed houses, rave reviews, and an award for 'best music' in the 2013 New Zealand Fringe Festival Awards.

'Great God! This Is An Awful Place' tells the story of Scott's arrival at the pole; the bukk of the lyrics are taken from Scott's diary and letters and many lines are quoted verbatim. This video was shot live at the Wine Cellar, Auckland, during the 2013 Auckland Fringe Festival. All audio was recorded live. The images in the projection are used with the kind permission of the Alexander Turnbull Library, Wellington.

Bond Street Bridge continue to tour the show around New Zealand, with an album and further dates in 2013 arts festivals to be announced soon. Go to http://www.bondstreetbridge.com for more information.
