Ryan Michael Galloway was nominated for "2009 Texas State Musician." It's kind of like getting to be the state flower for a year--only better. Apparently, last session there were only about 20 nominees out of several hundred thousand Texas musicians.

"I'm was a 'dark horse' candidate," says Ryan. "But I think they looked at the work I'm doing for Texas music and musicians, not just my entertainer status--I'm certainly not that well known. In any case, I'm in fantastic company, and it is truly an honor."

As it turns out, Willie Nelson won. "That's okay," says Ryan. "At least Willie can say that he beat out Ryan Michael Galloway. And I wish he would. Often."

His latest release, "Rock the Big House Down" (EP) is now available at SongSlide.com, where you can set your own price, and the physical CD has been released--with three bonus video tracks. You can sample the songs above, then go to RMG

SongSlide page to acquire the MP3s for yourself.

A lot of James Taylor fans compare Ryan Michael Galloway with Sweet Baby James, but RMG has synergized a plethora of influences into what ultimately becomes a unique sound. This is Mr. Galloway's official Myspace music page. Here you will have a chance to hear some of what he is working on for the first time, find out where he's playing, and listen to songs from past releases.

Mr. Galloway cut his musical teeth on an eclectic combination of influences from the late 60s and early 70s, including Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jesse Collin Young (Youngbloods), James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, Kenny Loggins, Stevie Winwood, Justin Hayward (Moody Blues), Led Zep, America, Eagles, Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, Larry Coryell, Chick Corea, Al Demeola and others. His songs are filled with rich harmonies and rapid-fire guitar work, along with lilting crying effects.

In addition to acoustic and electric guitar and vocals, he plays a host of instruments including blues harmonica, mandolin, bass, violin, viola, keyboards, and others.

The following is a video produced by filmaker and musician, C. Aaron Moore, shot in 2005.

Sometimes, RMG plays cover nights. This is a great opportunity for corporate and private parties. Here he plays a couple of familiar songs:
