From Life Cycle Of A Massive Star (Subtext SUB009).

Life Cycle Of A Massive Star is indeed what it describes : the birth, life and death of a stellar object in epic proportions.

We know Roly Porter for his love for experimental stuffs, using a variety of high-pitched noises to overstimulate our skin, throbbing basslines to put us under an exquisite pressure, and orchestral instrumentations to expand our field of view to extremes distances.

Giant, as the ending of this album, unites each and every of this features into a massive track out of this world. A dying giant red star starts to swell in the first half of the track, more and more frequently agitated by gravitational pulses piercing its corona and projecting plasma flares into the cosmos ; a sign of agony predicting a last beautifully self-destructive movement from this blazing singularity.

And then, at 3:00, saturated layers of sound dissolve in our speakers like the different star gases violently projected towards the void ; otherworldly choirs support this aural supernovae blinding us, burning us, transcending us. This fantastic event is unbearable, we need to escape but we want to witness it until its end ; we feel blessed by the superpower of Porter's sounds, carrying us to the nuclear core of a dying sun, ready to meet its violent epilogue in the form of an explosion of heat and light. And at 5:37, the last glowing particles of light seem caught by a divine hand, closing its fingers over the giant of fire, and capturing its ultimate remnants of life.

A monumental work.
