ROBBIE WILLIAMS RELEASES HIS BRILLIANT BRAND NEW STUDIO ALBUM “THE HEAVY ENTERTAINMENT SHOW” ON COLUMBIA RECORDS ON NOVEMBER 4.
Over the course of a 25 year career Robbie Williams has firmly established himself as a music icon and industry behemoth. To date he has sold over 70 million albums as a solo artist and holds the current record for the most most live tickets sold in one day, racking up a cool 1.6 million in 2006, and largest open air concert in UK history, playing to 375,000 people over an unprecedented three nights at Knebworth in 2003. Robbie has also won more BRIT Awards than any other artist in history, his 2010 Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution To Music brought his tally of Brits to an astonishing 17.
These remarkable feats are mirrored in Williams’ chart successes too. As it stands, six of Robbie’s albums appear in the all-time Top 100 UK biggest sellers list. He has a total of 11x UK Number 1 albums and 7x UK number 1 singles. “Swing When You’re Winning”, released in 2001, remains Robbie's best-selling album ever, spending six consecutive weeks at the top of the UK chart and achieving 7x platinum sales. Robbie’s tally of 11x Number 1 albums is surpassed only by Elvis Presley (12x) for the record of Most Male Solo Number 1 albums.
Robbie returns on the 4th November with his new studio album "The Heavy Entertainment Show”, his first since signing a new deal with Sony Music & Columbia Records
Robbie has worked with long time song-writing collaborator Guy Chambers on tracks for this album as well as Johnny McDaid, Brandon Flowers (The Killers), John Grant, Ed Sheeran and Stuart Price. The visuals for the campaign are the creation of Tom Hingston who has worked on all of Robbie’s albums except one (as well as with Massive Arrack, Bentley and Orlebar Brown) and initial single and marketing videos have been directed by Vaughan Arnell (who has also delivered videos for The Script, Take That, One Direction and George Michael).
The album pre-order & title track were launched on the 25th September in a surprise announcement during The X Factor’s TV ad break.
Robbie said –
“I was musing over the phrase ‘light entertainment’ - all the huge TV shows from when I was a kid, 30 million people watching them, this huge shared experience of these moments called light entertainment. Sometimes it can be levelled at people in a bad way, but for me that’s heavy entertainment. That’s what I’m hoping to do with this album – to have a shared experience with millions of people though the medium of light entertainment…but on steroids.”
