Sitting out on the porch
Like a sad sailor waiting to deploy
Until they throw the last suitcase out
On the lawn in front of your friends
The cab pulls up in front of you
Meter ticking time you only have to lose
What’s the point of fighting it
When you have no leg to stand for leverage
Pretend it’s really nothing
Pretend it’s something true
You know it’s an illusion
That only you can prove
You can’t believe it’s happening
In the back seat of a Crown Victoria
Everything you have built is a lie
And you told it so you still believe it’s right
So you light a cigarette
But it’s a shame you haven’t quit them yet
The driver says to put it out
So you flick it out onto the interstate
Pretend it’s really nothing
Pretend there’s someone true
The lies are only wishes
That only you can prove
