DESCRIPTION:
A bit of 1930s-40s Americana still exists in the hills of Kentucky. The Renfro Valley Barn Dance operates in Renfro Valley, Kentucky much as it has since 1939. In these modern times, acts such as Tanya Tucker, Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle now fill the stage. The Barn Dance was founded by Chicago radioman John Lair who had originally been from Rockcastle County, Kentucky. In the early days of the show up until the 1950s, the program was broadcast nationwide over CBS from WHAS in Louisville, and for a time, nationally syndicated from WLW in Cincinnati.
