Comparing the sound of my old JVC RX-150 bought new in 1987 with the more recent Sony STR-D315 I just got off Craigslist, using two vinyl sources and two CD sources, via Tape Outs to M-Audio Transit USB audio interface. To my ears they sound pretty similar, but the Sony seems to have better stereo imaging and more even-sounding eq.
