It's a particular feeling, and you know the one. Night sky,
smokestacks, street-lights, shouts. Office towers turned into mirror
walls, and trees' leaves gone grey in the dark. Receivers' music is
the dense, noir melancholy of electric guitar and electronics; it's
the lull and lullaby of Emilie Marzinotto's voice. It's alienation,
hope, and back-lit dream.
Receivers are a five-piece founded in Montreal in the 21st century.
Their debut album, Consider the Ravens, is out now. They have played
with bands such as Beach House, the Clientele, the Black Heart Procession, and Fleet
Foxes. And they are nocturnal.
"Receivers' song-ciphers don't give up their secrets easily, but . the bewitching power of Emilie Marzinotto's dispassionate croon and the spacious arrangements is hard to deny" ****
- Montreal Gazette, Jordan Zivitz
"It's a music that oscillates from lazy, black matte beauty to abrupt and glittering violence; chimes of synth and electric guitar alongside Marzinotto's nightingale voice"
- AjiSignal, blog
"wow-jeez Receivers played probably the best set i had ever heard, shooting for stars, and as a monk would say "holy f'n s"
- Said the Gramophone, blog
"Une pop dense et sentie qui, par ses detours psychedeliques et ses guitares dream pop, brille d'une touchante profondeur" ****/2
