The Chancers Biography
1998: British musicians Simon Francis and Marco McKee found themselves in Prague. Looking around they realized that there was a distinct shortage of the sort of music they had grown up listening to. Ska, punk, two tone, rock'n'rollThey decided to remedy the problem by forming their own band. The call went out for musicians who could develop British styles of music in a Czech context. A strange bunch of misfits answered the call and The Chancers was born.
12 years later and the Czech ska scene has grown to be one of the strongest in Europe, with The Chancers leading the charge. The intervening period has seen The Chancers release 4 critically acclaimed cds, headline tours throughout Europe, play all the major European festivals and perform on the same bill as such legends as Bad Manners and the Selector. The Chancers have also been nominated for a Czech Andel(grammy) award and make regular appearances on Czech national TV and radio.
But The Chancers are far from being some sort of ska revivalist band. Following the philosophy of the two tone movement, the band have always believed in innovation and blending musical styles. From 2002's "Teach the Rich" single with its remixes by top Czech dj Wiche and Nana Zorin, to their latest cd " Age of Rudeness" which mixes classic ska, punk and soul with more contemporary sounds, The Chancers are always trying to push the boundaries. With lyrics addressing issues as diverse as Jungian psychotherapy, sexual politics and the rapidly changing nature of Czech society, The Chancers' songs can be seen as an antidote to the triviality of the Pop Idol generation. This is real music about real things made by real people. And you can dance to it!
