The song was originally composed by an unnamed vocal trio who performed it during a Jack Ruby audition, as seen in the "Deeper Roots" documentary (Part 6 “Ghetto Riddims”), directed and produced by Howard Jonhson, narrated by Michael "Mikey Dread" Campbell and filmed in 1983 in Jamaica.
