While living in Columbus OH in 2004, DJ Possum taught himself DJing during a 4 month stint with nothing in his house but a set of turntables and records.
Once back in Dayton, Ohio, he started a weekly night at a bar Oasis Cafe and Pub, which started out as nothing more than spinning a bunch of classic rock and old school hip hop to college kids on 35 cent wings/5 dollar pitcher night. As time progressed, and the crowd built, it changed into dj sets featuring scratching and dropping live breakbeats with live musicians the likes of J. Wail, The Werks, The Goods, G-nome, and John Welton (Waterband/former member of The Recipe) and eventually formed the band Entity.
After a year or so of that, Elbo's, the local weekly Hip hop spot for quality hip hop was shut down, he took matters into his own hand and started a weekly hip hop night at his regular weekly spot. What started as a few people watching local hip hop, eventually grew into the second longest running hip hop nights in Dayton. Featuring such acts as Blueprint, Illogic, Vast Aire, Giant Panda, Bru Lei, and several other regional/national and local acts. But due to owner health problems, the bar was closed.
During this downtime, he recorded tracks producing for Aboriginal under the group name The Extraterrestrialz which opened for such acts as Illogic and Spitball before Ab was wrongly charged and incarcerated.
Following crates of records getting stolen after his house was broken into, DJ Possum was forced to take time and recreate his sound and style and was not able to DJ for a short period of time.
After a move back to his hometown of Richmond, VA, he's emerged with new spirit and style, and can be seen sitting in from time to time with jazz trio, LarJar as well as DJing funk/soul/breakbeat @ local bars and opening for all types of bands and acts and making booties shake
