Soulmusik auf Deutsch, das mag für manch einen klingen wie ein Widerspruch in sich. Tatsächlich aber verstehen es immer mehr deutsche Künstler, ihre oft als hart und unmelodiös verschrieene Landessprache charmant in weiche Musik mit Seele zu verpacken.
So auch die Hamburger Band posi+unes, die sich in diesem Frühjahr mit ihrem gefühlvollen Debütalbum voller handgemachter Musik präsentiert.
posi+unes ist eine organisch gewachsene Band, bestehend aus hochbegabten Musikern verschiedenster Nationalitäten (deutsch, französisch, tunesisch, rumänisch, amerikanisch und australisch). Die internationale Zusammensetzung der Band spiegelt sich auch in ihrer Musik wider: Tradierte Grenzen zwischen Genres werden spielerisch überschritten, Jazz-, HipHop- und Reggae-Einflüsse vereinen sich zu einem einmaligen, facettenreichen Soul.
Die Sprache der Songs ist Deutsch, doch das Gefühl darin universell. Sannah, die posi+unes-Sängerin, berührt unmittelbar. Nicht nur mit ihren Texten, die direkt aus dem Leben gegriffen sind und ihrer live-Präsenz auf der Bühne, die das Publikum direkt verzaubert, sondern vor allem mit ihrer warmen Stimme, die den Zuhörer an Diven wie Aretha Franklin oder Billie Holliday erinnert. Und so erstaunt es wenig, dass das Hamburger Abendblatt fordert: Sannah for Soul-President! Mounir, als zweiter Sänger im Bunde, entführt die Ohren seiner Hörerschaft auf eine Gefühlsreise sondergleichen. Mal singt er extrem lässig die wundervollsten Melodien à la Marvin Gaye, mal lässt er es krachen wie James Brown - als ginge es um unser aller Leben.
Die große Stärke von posi+unes ist ihre Authentizität: Die Band lebt und arbeitet sogar weitestgehend unter einem Dach, und das Bandhaus im ehemaligen Redaktionsgebäude der Hamburger taz bietet genügend Raum für WG, Studio und Proberaum.

Positunes: an international mixture of professional musicians and vocalists with Soul, Funk & Jazz running through their veins. They live their music literally together in a big crazy house/rehearsal studio in Hamburg, Northern Germany. This madhouse comprises of different artists and recording rooms, spanning all styles and influences. Their living room is also the rehearsal-room; the Fender Rhodes is also the coffee table…or both. Infact, band member Michi can often be seen banging out a jazz standard or two on it during his morning cup of tea.
The theme of family, friends and togetherness is reflected firmly in the music of this thirteen piece band. Soul with all its honesty and vitality – alive and fresh, a retro perspective with a solid contemporary approach and sound. While the lyrics are in German, the themes of thought and expression are fully universal, as soul music seems to have become these days.
One cannot deny the heavy influences of über-legends Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin in the music of the ‘tunes’, but then again vintage tones resonating from the Rhodes, clav or analogue synth machines pull your ears more in the ‘DAngelo’ or dub direction. Female vocalist Sannah performs Positunes songs directly from the heart, with candid soul and passion, making it truly difficult for the many audiences throughout Germany to resist the clear message the ‘tunes’ preach. Not a trace of manufactured ‘popstaridol’/whatever-you- wanna-call-it”! Hear my friends…it’s the real thing. The second voice in the band is former Tunisia based vocalist Mounir, who also understands how to enchant the audience with a deep, soulful voice, making the team upfront a powerful live experience.
Australian keyboarder Simon Grey has already worked as a side-man for Incognito, Jamiroquai and Bootsy Collins. Guitarist „King Kryszler“ is part of the band Clueso as well as German Rap/Reggae-mad-man Flowin’ Immo. Drummer Michael Pahlich also does the drumming for nationally well known Massoud Godemann Trio. Second keyboarder - Christofer Noodt – also plays for national reknown acts such as Ohrbooten, Nico Suave or Reimzig .
George Brenner aka. Capudelup is the mastermind producer of Positunes. The Romanian born and raised force behind the faders keeps the project (and 13 musicians) running together. Besides his work as a producer and songwriter, he also does some magnificent work as a beat-boxer, rapper, and sound programmer. When we’re talking about soulful music such as Nu-Soul, HipHop, Funk, Reggae or Afro, the sky seems to be the limit for this up and comer. It was Capudelup’s energy and spirit that brought the ‘tunes’ together for their debut LP ‘Positunes’.
The final touch on the debut album of the same title Positunes was done by NYC mastering icon Tom Coyne /Sterling Sound (Destiny’s Child, Erykah Badu asf.) himself to make the LP a stunning example of German soul for the 21st Century.
