DESCRIPTION:
It was seven years ago that I met Magne Hellesjo and Mike Beck in Texas. We were all there at a songwriters Gathering to honour Mickey Newbury, who had passed on eight months earlier. Magne has a band in Norway called Poisoned Red Berries (after a Newbury song), and Mike is part of that outfit whenever he travels to Norway to ply his trade doing clinics as a horse whisperer. They record with Harald Vaernor, either at Magne's farm studio near Hemnes or at Harald's Bunker in Hegedal.

The friendships that began in Austin, Texas, continue to this day. I've been to Norway a few times to record with PRB, and between times they have taken some lyrics of mine and added their own musical arrangements to them. "The Only Trains That Run" is one of those collaborations. PRB member, Jarl Edward, does the vocals on this salute to songwriters, especially those whose songs have helped me through a few rough times. ~Doug Lang
