Mahogany Hall Stomp. - PER GADE. GADE/HOYER'S JAZZBAND
IN JAZZ HOUSE "CAP HORN", COPENHAGEN 1968.

This is a recording from the last night with jazz in Jazz House CAP HORN in Copenhagen in 1968. During the years it became a world famous jazz club, but finally the owner wanted to get rock music and more cash flow every night, so it had to close down in September 1968.

When it all started in the 1950's it was as a part of the Rivival of Classical Jazz (Traditional Jazz). One of the first bands to play here was the now legendary PAPA BUE'S VIKING JAZZBAND (Denmark). Many world famous jazz musicians have played here during the years.

Per Gade played very often in Jazz house Cap Horn between 1965 and 1968, the last year on a weekly basis as "a house band". On week he played 4 times a week the next week twice, sharing the days of the week with an other band.

In those years it was jazz every night between 8 pm to 01 am., a total of 5 hours a night andwith the salary was d.kroner 65,- during the last years (approximately 7 GB Pounds) before tax.

This composition: The band is just playing and improvising. No arrangement at all. It is "here and now music".
This complete number recorded is on a total of approx. 18 minutes and with long, long, long solos on repeat and repeat. For that reason and the publication here, it has been cutted down with "fade outs" a couple of places.

The saxophone player Steen Vig was a friend to Per Gade (they met when 14-15 years old and young amateurs). He became quite famous as a soloist in jazz, but died sadly and much too young in January 1994.

And when recoding this in 1968, Per Gade had just been accepted to become a music student at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, after the much difficult entrance examinations. This is his exit from jazz into classical music.

Trombone, Per Gade (co-leader);
Trumpet, Birger Seehusen;
Saxophones, Steen Vig;
Bjo. Peter Hoyer (co-leder and "high" which is audible on this recording);
Bass: "Røde" Vagn Jensen;
Drms, Ib Lindschouw (formerly with Papa Bue form the start of his band in 1955).
