A dreamy neo-soul/jazz trio from Los Angeles, CA, Moonchild are an exciting new addition to Tru Thoughts, fitting in a treat on the eclectic indie’s roster. In a whirlwind three years Moonchild have self-released two albums, and collaborated or toured with highly-respected names in the soul-jazz crowd including Stevie Wonder, Jill Scott, India.Arie, Leela James and more. Attracting international tastemaker support from the likes of Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music), WHUR-DC, KCRW and LA 102.3, the band have also found themselves being praised by a host of iconic artists including Robert Glasper, Laura Mvula, James Poyser, Jazzy Jeff, Jose James and Tyler, The Creator and The Internet. Having signed to Tru Thoughts, they are set to gain a wider audience still via an official release for their album ‘Please Rewind’ on the UK label this year.

Amber Navran (vocals, tenor saxophone), Max Bryk (alto saxophone, flute, clarinet, keyboards) and Andris Mattson (trumpet/flugelhorn, keyboards) met in 2012 in their junior year at the University of Southern California in the Jazz Studies programme. Inspired by the respected hip hop and progressive electronic music scene in LA, the group’s sound continues to blossom as they create music influenced by the likes of J Dilla, Flying Lotus and D’Angelo - all of whom have been prevalent in broadening the groups musical horizons over the years, leading up to the production of their 2015 release - ‘Please Rewind’.
