binalig is a traditional style in the palabunibunyan (kulintang) tradition of the maguindanaon people of mindanao, the philippines. this cross-cultural demonstration performance adding drumset was led by master artists aga mayu butocan and kanapia kalanduyan, professors at the university of the philippines collegio ng musika. the ensemble consisted of guinading dilawangen, mangaraga salgan, norodin kalanduyan, aga mayu butocan, kanapia kalanduyan, tusa montes, jinggoy balane, and royal hartigan. this traditional ensemble performance includes kanapia kalanduyan playing kulintang, the leading melodic instrument, norodin kalanduyan on the small babandir gong, aga mayu butocan playing the dabakan drum, guinading dilawangen playing the hanging gandingan gongs, and mangaraga salgan playing the deep agung gongs. permission for educational non-commercial online use by professors butocan and kalanduyan. recorded by tusa montes at the abelardo concert hall at the university of the philippines diliman on 15 july 2009. video capture, photography, and logistics by rene fonseca, lighting by lito calaor, and photography and logistics by romy untalan and lito saplan.
