Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by teenaged punk fans; singer Julie Lanfeld, filmmaker / drummer Dave Markey, and bassist Phil Newman went through a few guitarists before finding permanence in Mike Glass in the fall of ’81. The band released its first single, a five track EP titled “Die Laughing” on Newman’s independent label, Spinhead Records in 1982, and this lead to many a gig with the likes of the Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, The Misfits, Social Distortion, The Minutemen, DOA, & Bad Religion. The band recorded for a series of compilations including “Charred Remains”, We Got Power’s “Party Or Go Home”, & Gary Kail’s “Life is Boring”. In 1983 the band recorded and released their one and only album “Do You Feel Safe” (Spinhead), and toured their home state and Arizona. In 1984 the band recorded a track for Markey’s independent film “Desperate Teenage Lovedolls”, and did a few shows before disbanding in the fall of that year. !n 1995, the LA label Grand Theft Audio releases “Die Listening” CD, a collection of demos, live, and compilation tracks. In the fall of 2007, Julie initiated an all original member reunion, and the band played live in 2008 and 2009. The Die Laughing EP was reissued via iTunes in 2008.
