Destro Destructo - Sweat Equity - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Northwest hip hop veteran Destro Destructo played a prominent role in exposing the once uncharted region to underground heads and label executives, long before artists like Macklemore, Grieves, and Blue Scholars garnered attention. The Portland, Oregon based emcee began making noise in the late 90s by grinding the battle circuit and helping to cement a local scene alongside notable Rose City artists such as Cool Nutz and Lifesavas. It was around this time that his crew Frontline merged with a Seattle crew by the name of Oracle's Creed, thus forming the pivotal NW supergroup Oldominion. He also started a duo known as The Boom Bap Project with Seattle emcee Karim aka Nightclubber Lang. While Oldominion became known for their uniquely moody sound, Destro's less populated group perfected a combination of battle-ready lyrics and timeless sounding beats. In 2004, The Boom Bap Project proved this to be a winning formula by signing to the seminal independent hip hop label Rhymesayers Entertainment.

Over the following years, The Boom Bap Project released 2 LPs - Reprogram (2005) and The Shakedown (2008) - on a successful label and rocked shows all over the world. The years of grinding and touring led to a strong international fan base and paved the way for other Northwest hip hop artists. After the release of The Shakedown, Destro took some time off to be with his burgeoning family. His break ended in 2010 with the release of his first solo project, The Working Progress EP - a free download that served as a primer for his long awaited full-length album, ill.ustrated. Released in 2011, ill.ustrated received underground acclaim thanks to tracks like "Back on the Flow" and "Eat'em Up" featuring NW heavyweights Sleep of Oldominion and Vursatyl of Lifesavas. Destro is now gearing up to release a brand new album on June 15th, titled Day Of the Dead.
