Nicola Lionfish

A unique culture reggae singer and songwriter, currently residing in Nassau Bahamas. Nicola has built a large fan-base using the power of the internet to promote her sweet and strong reggae music internationally.

Radio stations and sound system companies worldwide have been clamouring to get hold of her releases and dubplates, her 2009 video has been featured on many TV stations internationally, and fans are crying out for more.

Despite repeated approaches from music labels Nicola has deliberately retained full control of her music as an independent artist. Financing all her own releases, she has worked with producers from Jamaica & Europe and to date has released some 20 tracks.

The soaring spirituality & clarity of Nicola’s voice captivates everyone who hears her sing. Faith, hope & love burns in Nicola’s heart & radiates strongly through her lyrics & music. She transforms sounds & words in a new way to create one rhythmic dynamic that is appreciated all over the world.

2010 sees her ready to take things to a new level with further releases and international performances in planning. Some big waves are rolling out from Nassau!

Bio

Born to a Bahamian mother & German father, Nicola left home for Germany at a young age to seek independence and experience. Much of what she encountered taught her that life be harsh.

Nicola is a strong woman and true survivor. As Bob Marley sang, her hand has been made strong by the Hand of the Almighty. She has had it hard and knows what it means to fight and overcome violence, prejudice, poverty and falsehood. But, despite experiences in her life that would crush most people, Nicola continually seeks to lift up and reach out with love to those who suffer and struggle against injustice and the systems of governments that suffocate them.

Nicola is known as a strong supporter of the people in Haiti and has sung about them long before the devastating earthquake. She also supports and contributes financially to the Poor Man Movement, a grassroots community development project in Kwa Thema. S. Africa.

Life has made Nicola shrewd and tough and she is quick to recognise users and abusers. Such people need to be careful, because the fire of love and passion that blazes in Nicola’s heart will burn those who do not handle it with respect. She will call evil for what it is. It is not surprising then that she is called ‘Lionfish’ – beautiful to look at, but deadly if you provoke her!
