SHIRAZ

Shiraz was born on October 25th 1984 in Nassau, Bahamas, where he was also raised and attended High School before relocating to New York to attend college. Since returning back to Nassau he has also spent time in Jamaica for his career.
Shiraz got his start in the music biz as a disc jockey but then decided he wanted to take his music further and develop is skills as an artist. He surrounded himself with many musicians, singers and rappers already during his college years and Shiraz eventually started to write his own songs and started to sing. Eventually he did not have the time spare to DJ which was the point to mark the end of his career as a DJ and the beginning of his career as an artist.
The alias “Shiraz” came about during college as well. He was drinking red wine and he was staring at the label because he was “a lil tipsy” as he admits. His original DJ name was Quest but he wanted a new name for his career as an artist so while staring at the Shiraz bottle he decided “Shiraz! That’s it! Short and catchy”
As an artist Shiraz is inspired by life in general as well as issues and problems he and others around him face in life. Musically he draws his inspiration from a large variety of artistes and genres. He names Michael Jackson, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, P Diddy but also Bounty Killa and Barrington Levy. Recently he has been listening to artistes such as Tarrus Riley, Busy Signal, Rick Ross, Jadakiss and also Coldplay. Shiraz says he always keeps his ears open for new music and talent. Producers are also influential at times and the productions of Polow Da Don, Timbaland , Swiss Beatz or Will I Am inspire Shiraz.
Shiraz really started out as a reggae/ dancehall artiste, especially since he used to live in Jamaica and was influenced by Jamaican music in his early career. He considers himself to be different and refuses to let anyone force him into just one category or genre of music now. Shiraz’ music really has evolved into a fusion of pop and hip hop, sometimes with a Caribbean twist. His latest songs releases were “As I Am”, “Walking On Water”, “Shawty Go” and “Man on Da Side”.
In his career so far, Shiraz that’s he has been shown a lot of love in the Bahamas as well as internationally and he is proud of his achievements so far even though the best is yet to come. There is still much more to come in terms of music, videos and of course more live performances.
As a person Shiraz describes himself as a “cool ass dude”. He says he is always real, intelligent and business oriented and he sees his career as a business even though he has a deep love and passion for music. Shiraz says he stands out and is different based on his music but also because he is “multi-racial” from the Caribbean and has a look and a dress style that stands out.
Currently, Shiraz is working on his long awaited album and he promises he has a lot in store! The final title of the album has yet to be decided as well as the exact release date. The album will be a very personal record featuring songs that mean a lot to Shiraz. He speaks about things close to his heart such as his dreams, failures and success, women, friends and family.
