My Washburn/Epiphone LP Special Mongrel Build. - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 07, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
So I had this beautiful Washburn neck, that came off of a broken acoustic, lying around, and an Epiphone LP Special II body also lying around, that I thought I would mate together to make a really cool electric. So I cut off the remnants of the acoustic body that the neck was glued into, cut the neck heel to make it a bolt on neck, added some wood under the fretboard at the end of the heel and bolted the neck onto the body. I then installed a cool pair of chrome Gretsch humbuckers, a Gretsch 3 way toggle switch, a pair of 500k pots for volume and tone, nice black die cast tuners, Tusq nut, cut a custom tortoise pickguard that I mounted on springs for height and angle adjustability, plugged the bridge and tailpiece anchor holes, drilled new anchor holes and installed a Schaller wrap around bridge at the right distance from the nut for correct intonation, routed and inlayed a ceramic owl plague on the body behind the bridge, modded a pair of chrome skull license plate bolts into knobs for the pots, added a vine decal to make the body better match the fretboard, and set her up with my preferred .011 gauge strings. The end result is a guitar that plays, sounds and feels nothing short of awesome! For more information about lutherie services available at D Guitars Miami LLC, please call 305-896-1811.
