What makes the ultimate emcee is it their delivery, their passion, creativity, motivation or the sheer essence to captivate their audience. Is their any one phrase that rightfully defines an emcee? Vibrant, witty, self motivated are just an introduction to the natural born artist or should I say artisan song writer and emcee. Mooka berth name Beryl Ouma was born in Kenya, and raised by her grandmother until she became a native of Jersey City, New Jersey once reunited with her parents at the tender age of two. Mooka moving to Jersey City was the introduction to aliments of the American ghettoes that would impact her mentally and spiritually. Her escape was her music, her weapon was her pen, and her environment was her canvas. She wrote poetry to escape from every day life. By the age of 14 Mooka also lived in Elizabeth, N.J. where she enrolled into a performing arts school where her creativity flourished and her foundation in music was laded. She took pre college courses in sound engineering, vocal training note reading and performing. At the age of 15 she moved to Newark, NJ yet still traveling to Elizabeth to continue her education in the music field. Shortly one year after, she then became highly interested in Hip-hop music. Her instance was not only in listening to Hip-hop but writing music as well. Within a few months of her 18th birthday, she had first performance at the Robert Treat Hotel where she and two members of a group called Icey Grey form Harlem, N.Y. won the future star showcase in 2003. That showcase was hosted by hot 97 own Uncle Ralph including celebrity judges such as Wendy Williams, City high, and various A&Rs. She then again moved on her own to Orange, N.J at the age of 18 turning 19 due to family issues. While attending Excess county college she work a part time job at the local mall, found time to still go to the studio, do a few shows and kept the drive to be the best she can be in what she wanted most . Now at the age of 20 Mooka lives in Newark again. Placing her troubled past behind her she is now determent to finish what she started to place it in her own words. She quotes I did not come this far to give up on myself man. This is my fulltime job right now. If theres anyone who believes in me, is me. I have a natural talent, and I would never know how far it will take me until I try. So for that, I aint giving up. Once you give up, you already failed and failing; and failure isnt in my vocabulary. Mooka Performed locally at various events and nightclubs such as Black 45s traditional lyrical combat at Nj Pac, Flava nightclub, Downtime (before it got remodel), Club Speed, Pyramid, and etc Looking forward to enhance her craft some of her major influences are Nas, Laurn Hill, Tupac, Biggie, Marley Marl, Roxanne Shanti and Rah Digga. Her lyrics bring forth vision and inspiration to a world that needs change. She is the ultimate female Emcee.
