Tarrah Reynolds grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she started taking Suzuki violin at the age of 7. She immediately fell in love with the instrument and spent every minute of her free time practicing, aside from those times her mother literally had to force her to go outside and play. By age 12, Tarrah was making her concerto debut with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, at which point it had become clear - she was on the path to becoming a great violinist. Tarrah went on to win numerous scholarships and auditions, including the audition that got her accepted into the undergrad program at The Juilliard School.
Although classical music is her first love, Tarrah reached a point where she realized her passion was not limited to classical violin. More than anything, she felt the need to compose. As a lover of all styles of music, Tarrah did not know where to begin, but after coming across a Joni Mitchell recording for the first time, she decided getting a guitar might be a good place to start. Ever since, Tarrah has followed her inspiration, experimenting with alternate tunings and taking the time to come up with melodies and harmonies that, from what she has been told, are unusually beautiful and unexpected.
After some years of being too timid to play out, Tarrah has now become a regular on the New York songwriter's scene, playing at popular venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Living Room,The Blue Note, and Highline Ballroom. She has collaborated with singer/songwriters John Forte, Monet, and Imani Uzuri to name a few. Tarrah has also toured France on two occasions with an 18-piece, all-female Nina Simone tribute band(led by NYC's queen of underground music, Tamar-Kali), in which she did her own version of 'The Other Woman'.
As a violinist, Tarrah has worked with numerous recording artists, including Mos Def, Jay-Z, Kanye West, D'Angelo, Maxwell, Alicia Keys, Harry Connick Jr. Marc Anthony, Lauryn Hill, The Clark Sisters, Donnie McClurkin, Tramaine Hawkins, The Gorillaz, Oleta Adams, Lalah Hathaway, John Forte, Il Divo, El DeBarge, Tamar-Kali, Imani Uzuri, Monet, and Si*Se. She also performs with several chamber groups and orchestras in the NYC area.
