This was recorded on December 12, 2010 following an all day flute workshop that was held in the home of Gene and Debbie Stopp. Also seen and heard in this video along with the Stopps are our friends Gary Adler and the late Jeff Marx. Following the flute recital, pot luck, gift exchange (where Rachel received the green scarf she is wearing in the video), and sight reading session, Rachel was given a tour of Gene's vintage keyboard collection. After that tour she returned to the Hammond C3 and was asked to play a little bit of Karn Evil 9. Luckily, since I had brought along my camcorder and Zoom digital audio recorder for the flute recital, I was able to quickly set them back up and capture the moment.

This was not a planned video recording session. I know that the lighting is poor and that the camera work is amateurish, so you really don't need to tell me this. As for comments regarding the participants singing along, all I can say is that if you were there you would have been singing along as well. This was not a concert - it was a celebration.

Rachel Flowers has been playing the piano since she was 2 years old. She fell in love with the organ as a small child when her father and I began taking her to the free Sunday afternoon Spreckels Organ concerts in Balboa Park, San Diego. Since that time she has played various types of console organs, but this was her first time playing a Hammond organ. At the time of this recording Rachel was 9 days shy of 17.
