Saturday 18th of November, we were able to catch up with The Big Blue, a blues band from Sussex, with Stuart Bligh on guitar and lead vocals, Ben Matthews on drums and Andy Williams on bass guitar, together they bring a feeling of raw Texas blues, to the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. They performed a haunting cover of Stevie's "Mary had a little lamb", with Stu keeping the same style of flow on the guitar that SRV was famous for, never stopping to know where he is going. Andy and Ben are the driving force of the band you can see they all have experience, natural at what they do. Some of the tunes the band performed were: Purple Haze, They Call Me Guitar Hurricane, Hoochie Coochie Man, All Your Love, I Shot the Sherriff and other blues covers done to their own style. The Big Blue are a band one shouldn't miss out on seeing if you have the chance, they are one of the true keepers of the dying art form that are blues trio's. The gig started with a blistering version of Purple Haze making everyone in the venue look up and take notice! The Big Blue brings an excitement and energy to their performance which makes us wonder, why is blues a dying art? The passion that Stuart Bligh puts into not only his guitar playing, but his vocals as well, has convinced us at IRUK that Blues music brings quite possibly the best live atmosphere and sound of any of the music genres of the last century!
