Chris Rock On The Music Business

Chris Rock: "Music kind of sucks. Nobody's into being a musician. Everybody's getting their mogul on. You've been so infiltrated by this corporate mentality that all the time you'd spend getting great songs together, you're busy doing nine other things that have nothing to do with art. You know how shitty Stevie Wonder's songs would have been if he had to run a fuckin' clothing company and a cologne line?"

Highlarious, right?

Welcome to the JAZZ/FUNK/SPOKEN WORD sphere of Miles Long. In a music world of mediocrity, we stand tall and proud amongst fellow artists and musicians who actually have something to say and who enjoy making music for the art.

I have neither a clothing company nor a cologne line. Nor do I even have a record label behind me. Apparently, I'm not looking at this side of my artistry as a business in which I will become rich and famous (besides, someone already jacked the name Gordon Gartrelle as a clothing line). I make music that, first and foremost, I want to hear. I make sincere music. It's what W. Ellington Felton calls The Honest Music Movement. That's what it's all about, baby-sharing your soul.

As a poet and a bass player, I give you my heart. As the writer of this bio section, I could spin words and dazzle you with clever catch phrases to convince you as to why you should listen/buy my music, but why when you can listen and form your own opinion?

Big ups and salutations to all of you who support and have supported my music through the years. Your energy and love is inspiring and reaffirming. I'm proud enough of my art that I can honestly say that even if no one else dug my stuff, I'd still be bangin' it my daggone self. However, I will admit that it IS incredibly gratifying to know that you like it too. Thank you for the love and keeping my soul fed.
