Lydia

“She could sing before she could talk.”

This Puerto Rican born, Virgin Islands raised talent has a performance history as long and as varied as her musical influences. Lydia's life has revolved around the arts from a very tender age. Traveling the world playing steel pan with one of the Virgin Islands most acclaimed youth bands, piano practice, acting regularly with the Carabana Ensemble Theater Company, and lets not forget dance academy. In her high school years she even dabbled in modeling. She did local runway shows and even landed a spot on a brochure/web/commercial campaigned for a major cruise line.

Lydia's mother has been known to say that, “she could sing before she could talk.” It seems that while some of us have to work hard at developing such a skill, others are simply born with it! As a young child she sung with her church choir, and by the time she had graduated high school people were courting her to sing at their weddings, record with local artists and musicians, and perform at hotels and restaurants around the islands, being accompanied by jazz and/or calypso musicians . . .And! Sometimes, even performing original songs in English and/or Spanish!

Growing up listening to her Pop and R&B favorites like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and Madonna, and her fathers do wop and blues/jazz favorites has helped to shape her musical style. And, since she is a born and bread West Indian, nothing soothes her soul like the island flavors of reggae, soca, calypso, zouk, salsa and boleros! Lydia's style is destines to be one onto itself. Not too many people have a musical background and/or influence of so many styles, languages, or musical genres.

Now an Atlanta resident, Lydia has been working hard at continuing to develop her writing abilities and her voice; knowing that no matter how good she may be, she can always be even better! She’s gained a lot of local exposure having performed at the 2004, V103 Car and Bike show and even having had her single, “Nasty” on local radio station, Hot 107.9. She is has also gained notoriety in her home town, being featured in local publications as, not only someone to watch for, but someone to help put the Virgin Islands on the map! Hoping that soon the whole world will know that the Virgin Islands isn’t just a beautiful place to visit, but it’s also a place full of amazing and talented people!

Lydia continues to work diligently along side of Atlanta’s best musical minds…doing all she can to be ready for her time to shine! Like she always says, “todo a su tiempo” or “everything in it’s own time” . . . .and her time. . . .is now!

No matter where I am, Mi alma siempre estará con mi quierda isla!
