In this system, refrigeration is produced by the direct application of HEAT - the hotter it is the better the system works. Unlike systems such as thermionic bridge as used in submarines, no electrical or kinetic energy is used in the primary cycle. Vapour Absorption Refrigeration works by using the difference in boiling point of a solution ..eg 50% lithium bromide.. verses water. This difference in BP causes a difference in vapour pressure if each fluid is in a separate sealed pressure chamber.. so a flow is induced when a valve is opened between the two. In the process of the flow, heat is stripped from one side and gained by the other. ie refrigeration. Then the solute is heated, and water is driven back. The heat required is usually supplied by solar collectors. Then the process is repeated. A continuous refrigeration cycle is induced by siamesing two circuits together as explained by the learned lecturer. In this way no mechanical compression is used, but instead simply the difference in vapour pressure between 2 solutions.
