This skill can make you a better music producer: reverse engineering.
To reverse engineer songs is to analyse them to the point where you can gain knowledge from what the producer has done. By doing this rather than listening to the track like a normal person would for 'pleasure' purposes or as I like to say listen to it like a 'fiction book'. I suggest producers listen to tracks when reverse engineering like they are reading a non-fiction book. Extracting knowledge and techniques from the tracks you listen to so you can apply those techniques to your future productions.
