December 2016 update: Guitar deity Eric Clapton, hampered by a painful nerve disorder in his hands in recent years, announced what he says are his final American concerts. The four shows, two at the 20,000-seat Madison Square Garden in New York on March 19-20, 2017 and his final pair at the 17,500-seat Los Angeles Forum in Inglewood, CA on March 25-26, will take place within days of Clapton’s 72nd birthday on March 30.

Clapton also scheduled what might be a final trio of gigs May 22, 24 and 25 in his favorite venue, the 5,300-seat Royal Albert Hall in London.

Clapton's band consists of drummer Steve Gadd and bassist Nathan East (both have been with him for years), backup singers Sharon White and Michelle John, keyboardist Walt Richmond and Joe Cocker pianist Chris Stainton, who has been in his band since 1979.
