My Song: Herbert Kinobe on Uganda's dying traditions - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 09, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Ugandan musician Herbert Kinobe wrote 'Abataka' after a visit to his grandmother in the village. The song's title is a Lugandan term meaning 'Elders in a community', and it well expressed his regained appreciation for elders, whom he sees as the crucial bearers of tradition.

In this video edition of My Song, Kinobe shares his fears about the loss of local customs and cultures. Through fusing traditional music with more popular Western sounds, he hopes to inspire young Ugandans to realize what he did. "To me 'Abataka' is more than a song, it's a life experience," he says.
