BIO

KC Roberts and the Live Revolution is an independent 7-piece original funk band from Toronto. Winners of the 2007 Toronto Independent Music Award for best live act, the band is well-known for its energized live performances. Sheena Lyonnais of torontomusicscene.ca writes, “Their live shows are absolutely mind-blowing; the band is something entirely unique and influenced by atypical genres, hidden YouTube videos and unconventional stage line-ups.”

The energy of the band’s live shows flows directly into its new record. In July 2009, KC Roberts and the Live Revolution released their second LP titled Parkdale Funk 1: The Pillage of Bloor West Village, comprising 11 original songs. Independently recorded, produced and distributed, Parkdale Funk 1 sold 350 copies in its first weekend. The band’s first music video and a sequel to 2008’s massive Funk Massacre Halloween party – September 30th at the Horseshoe – are just two of many big plans for the rest of 2009.

Formed in 2004, KC Roberts and the Live Revolution have enjoyed consistent success both on stage and in the studio. In 2005, the band placed in the top 5 in Chartattack.com’s North by Northeast report card reviews. Later that year they opened for the Black Eyed Peas at Molson Amphitheatre, making such an impact that they were invited back in 2006. Since then, KC Roberts and the Live Revolution have established themselves as a high-energy live act and have become mainstays at large festivals including the Distillery Jazz Festival (2007), Beaches Jazz Festival (2007 and 2009), and Wasaga Beachfest (2009) among others.

Bandleader KC Roberts is a fixture in the Toronto rock, funk, jazz and gospel scenes as a songwriter, guitarist and vocalist. He has contributed on stage and in the studio to projects with many international artists including DJ Z-Trip, 2007 Canadian Idol winner Brian Melo, and Grammy-nominated gospel artist Martha Munizzi. In 2008, KC was invited to join multi-award winning artists Krystaal in the studio as well as on their very successful African tour. All of these experiences have been worked seamlessly into KC’s current work with the Live Revolution and are highlighted on the band’s new LP, Parkdale Funk 1: The Pillage of Bloor West Village.
