DESCRIPTION:
Autumn Leaves ( Joseph Kosma ). Thomas Lorenzo, Spanish Guitar, Johnny Branquizio, Electric Guitar.

I play the Spanish guitar with fingerpicking technique. Johnny plays his guitar, both with fingers and pick.

I enjoy playing this tune due to the constant forward motion of all harmonic cadences. These cadences are very predictable, to both the listener and the performer. The final resting point, of harmonic resolution, tends to fall at the end of 8 bar sequences.

I enjoy having the resting point at the end of the phrases, as this allows me to constantly re harmonise, with my Spanish guitar, musical passages, with a goal. I re harmonise knowing that my final target point, is the same as all major resting areas, of the original composition.

It is a song to have great fun with. Fingerpicking techniques, give me the versatility to bring to life, the constant flow of melodic and harmonic variations, that come to my imagination.

Autumn Leaves was originally a French song called "Les feuilles mortes" . The direct translation would be that of "The Dead Leaves”. The lyrics were written by Jacques Prévert. It was composed in 1945.

This song was featured in the 1946 movie: Les Portes de la suit, directed by Marcel Carné.

I would also recommend listening to versions as:
Cannonball Adderley, 1958, Blue Note album Somethin' Else, featuring Miles Davis.

John Coltrane, 1961 , Snapper / Artistry/MPS album in Europe.

Bill Evans, 1980, Autumn Leaves album with Eddie Gómez on bass and Marty Morell on drums. It was released by Lotus, Italy.
