"MY FRIEND JEFF, c'est un groupe de rock. Quatre types qui balancent leurs hypnotiques chansons pop rock sans gimmicks ni fioritures. Une musique délicate, impulsive, obsessionnelle et énergique. Mais MY FRIEND JEFF, c'est avant tout Jeff Hallam.
Jeff a grandi à Stayton dans l'Oregon, non loin des fermes et des usines de mobile-homes. Un coin qui aurait pu héberger n'importe quelle nouvelle de Raymond Carver. Stayton est à une heure au sud de Portland, l'eldorado de la scène indé américaine. À dix ans son père, ex-marine puis inspecteur des impôts, lui offre une guitare en plastique sur laquelle il se fait les doigts. Premières chansons, premiers groupes au lycée, quelques concerts. À dix-huit ans, Jeff quitte Stayton et pour aller vivre ailleurs : Portland, Tokyo, San Francisco, New York et finalement Paris. La musique ne l'a jamais quitté. En France, il rencontre Csaba Palotaï, Emmanuel Marée et Boris Boublil. Et MY FRIEND JEFF sort de l'ombre, le groupe doit son nom à une toile de Troy Henriksen, un portrait de Jeff.
« Je suis venu à Paris, sans avoir vraiment de fric ni de boulot. Je me suis promené pendant des heures et j'ai commencé à écrire des chansons, à jouer dans la rue et dans des bars ». Avec Jeff, tout a l'air terriblement simple, péremptoire et évident. Il va droit au but. Et ses morceaux sont comme lui : fins, obsédants et nécessaires, dans un monde piqué d'illusions sur l'amour, le romantisme et autres absurdités écrasantes.

MY FRIEND JEFF is a rock band. A band that counts to four and hurls a barrage of hypnotic pop rock songs.  No gimmicks. No frills. Just delicate obsessive drive and punch.   MY FRIEND JEFF is lead by Jeff Hallam.  

Jeff grew up in Stayton, Oregon, a tiny farming and mobile home manufacturing town in the Willamette valley that could easily be the setting of a banal Raymond Carver short story.   Stayton is an hour south from Portland, the new eldorado of the american independent music scene. His father an ex-marine and a tax collector, Jeff was given a plastic 6 string guitar for his 10th birthday. He cut his teeth playing, singing and writing in rock bands with school mates. When he was 18 he left Stayton and lived from city to city; Portland, Tokyo, San Francisco, New York and finally Paris. In Paris he met Csaba Palotaï, Emmanuel Marée and Boris Boublil and formed his band. The group was named by his close friend, american painter, Troy Henriksen after troy made a painting of Jeff and titled it MY FRIEND JEFF.   

"I came to Paris, didn't have a job or much money, took long walks and just started writing songs and playing on the street and in bars" recalls Jeff. These songs are intelligent obsessive 3 minute rock songs that feel vital and necessary brooding in a universe of infatuation and tension, idealized romantic love and hostility.
