Behind her seeming vulnerability, Jackie Daum is a fearless independent songwriter with a dynamic, blues-inflected voice. Although her songwriting is rooted in pop and folk, she cites blues rocker, Chris Whitely, as her major musical influence. Daum herself has been compared to such diverse artists as Bonnie Raitt, Norah Jones, and Patty Griffin.
Following her instincts and abandoning her career in real estate sales, Jackie sold her Seattle condo and all personal belongings to write and record her debut full-length album, The Sky Inside, in Austin, TX. What resulted is a beautiful collection of love songs that are tied together by the themes of longing and desire, while at the same time making peace with the past and living in the present. Daum approached the writing process with a quiet determination, sequestering herself in a small, scarcely-furnished house in North Austin, sleeping on a mattress she found on the side of the road, and writing feverishly on a Yamaha upright piano. Produced by Billy Harvey (Steve Poltz, Bob Schneider, Charlie Mars, Trish Murphy) and backed by Austin's A-List Session Players, J.J. Johnson (drums, John Mayer) and George Reiff (bass, Jakob Dylan), this record is sure to please the ear and feed the soul.
Standout Tracks such as Going To New Mexico, Rock Stars, and You Give Me Air have been featured on radio stations from Austin, TX to Astoria, OR.
Daum's previous 4-song EP (2005), Parasol, was a self-produced and independently released effort that garnered radio play on KPIG in Santa Cruz and earned her gigs at well-known clubs in Southern California, including Lestat's in San Diego and Genghis Cohen in L.A.
