Howdy folks, I’m Jeff from Moonshine Distiller, and welcome to another hearts episode. In this episode, we’re going to be discussing vodka infusions, or moonshine infusions. There’s all kinds of different vodka flavors, from citrus, to coconut, to cranberry, and same thing with moonshine, sometimes with fruit, sometimes without fruit. And this really brings out what’s so great about distilling; a lot of it is just experimentation. If there’s a flavor you like, why not try experimenting and infuse it with either some of your moonshine or some of your vodka.

For instance, here we’ve got some cinnamon sticks and a jar of fresh moonshine. Really, all you need to do is soak those botanicals (in this case) or fruits if you desire with any moonshine for a given period of time. This is where the spirit of experimentation comes in, because that time it has to age depends upon the botanical or the fruit that you use. Some botanicals will be done in as few as a day or two, whereas some will need a couple of weeks. Fruits on the other hand, you can adjust the flavor by adding juice, or adding the raw fruit to soak in the moonshine. One thing to be careful of when doing these infusions is letting it soak for too long. In a lot of compounds, there’s bitter components like tannins that will also slowly absorb into the alcohol. The longer you let this sit, the more of a chance you risk of absorbing those tannins into your alcohol, and the worse the taste will be.

My recommendation is to taste your spirit every couple of days, and then just take out the botanicals whenever you feel like it’s a good flavor. So go ahead, try anything your heart desires, even combinations. Some of my favorite are chocolate and chili, coffee, and vanilla spice.

So there you have it. Thanks again for tuning in, and we’ll see you next time.
