"All The King's Horses was a Hip Hop group based out of Oakland, Ca. It's founding members are James Ek-Sel: Square Root, and D.J./Producer Scrapz a.k.a Vita-min- C. They began as members of Black Terrorist Productions, James Ek-Sel's High School group and he brought in his younger friend Square Root into the group in 1988! Wanting to go in a different direction, James Ek-Sel asked Square Root to join a new group he was forming. The name that was agreed upon was All the King's Horses, a praise to the popular sampled heavy album of the same name by Jazz great Grover Washingtion Jr. A 3rd member, D.J. Scrapz or D.j. Vita-Min-C later joined. Scrapz was a talent producer from East Oakland and had cut his teeth in the business being a respected comrade of Bay legends Father Dom and D.J. Smooth G. With Scrapz unquestionable talent as a producer and DJ was added to the group, All The King's Horses was complete. Although there was SOLO artists from the Bay whos first releases Pioneered the Alt-rap backpack sound in the city like Del the Funkee Homosapien, TMD & Company of Captial Tax fame; All The King's Horses made Bay Area HIP HOP HISTORY with their 1993 Release "Nobody Knows Where The Red Fern Grows" which is consider the FIRST Alternative rap "Backpack"era sound release by a group in the Bay Area, before other artists of that genre like Boredstiff, Souls of Mischief, Mystik Journeymen,Hobo Junction,Zion I etc. This was an important turning point in bay area Hip Hop music when Mob music like Too $hort, 415 etc, gave way to a whole new class..."
