Hatuey was a legendary Taino chieftain who was "Cuba's First National Hero" and the second fighter against colonialism in the New World after Anacaona. Rita Montaner was a Cuban singer, pianist, actress and star of stage, film, radio and television. She was probably the best-loved female star in Cuba of the period 19201960; they called her Rita de Cuba. Eliseo Grenet Sánchez was a Cuban pianist and a leading composer/arranger of the day.
