Shemesh Record is proud to be present a compilation of music recorded over the last 15 by the Shemesh and Makating family. Featuring a mixture of legendary international reggae artists such as Sugar Minott and Mykal Roze along with some of the best in UK based talent such as Sandeeno, Afrikan Simba and IIodica. Full horn section, real pianos, organs and great original riddims are the order of the day. All music produced in house by the Makating family in Blackbird Leys, Oxford, UK with mixes from UK heavyweights Russ Disciple, Dougie Conscious and mastered by legendary producer Nick Manasseh. Released to all major digital music stores in July 2014.
Makating started in 1994, a group of friends from Oxford UK. After a few years of gigging and recording they released their debut 7" vinyl 'Peace in the Garden' mixed by Nick Manasseh and receiving play from the late John Peel and Jah Shaka Sound System. More releases followed including the now very collectable 12" vinyl mixed by Manasseh 'Worlds of the Prophet' featuring Makating lead vocalist Slimma Levi who sadly passed away in 2004.
Over the years Makating have release 4 full length albums and have collaborated with some reggae greats. Dave Norland (Makating's bass man) went over to Jamaica and voiced Sugar Minott over Makating's reworking of the Surfin' riddim and this saw a vinyl release in 2007. Other artists such as Lorraine and Fireocious are core members of the Makating family. This album pulls together brand new music never released before and also music which has had vinyl release but never on CD or digital.
