"Paco" (2013) for accordion solo, is a tribute to Paco de Lucía, the best instrumentist of the history of the flamenco, the music of the south of Spain: a revolutionary. "Paco" is not a classical work, neither a piece of "variètè". It will have the same "problem" as Piazzolla`s music: is it classical? Is it "variètè"?... who mind? I think that only are two styles of music: good music and... the other music. The piece born, because Alexander Selivanov, Professor at Gnessin Academy of Moscu, suggest me to write a piece based on the Spanish folk music. I have quite experience in flamenco music during last six years, playing in duo with one of the most known flamenco guitarrists, José Luis Montón, who introduce me to this music and to appreciate more the art of Paco de Lucía. The work was written in the first 15 days of February, it lasts about four minutes and has three sections: the first is a bulería (3-3-2-2-2 rythm) with some reminiscences from the piece "Almoraima" of Paco; the second is also a bulería, where the accordion acts as melodic and percusive instrument and where the player must do some "jaleo" (shouts to encourage typical from flamenco music) and the third is a fast rumba based on the last theme of "Entre dos aguas", one of the most known themes of Paco. All the thematic used original from Paco has been changed and developed just to make a tribute to him, but with important differences respect to the original themes, to make not a copy of Paco`s music, but a original new music for accordion. It`s probably the first original piece of flamenco written for accordion: a new universe to explore for our instrument, using his variety of technical effects (ricochet, bellow shake, percussions...) to evocate the technic of the Spanish flamenco guitar.
