Fresh from departing UK psych legends Blossom Toes, drummer Kevin Westlake teamed up with fellow Marmalade label mainstay Gary Farr, no longer with The T-Bones, but not yet a fully fledged solo artist. The pair cut a one-off 45 that appeared in France under the name The Lion & The Fish (based on their star signs).
Green was the flip side and starts out as a fragile piece of baroque pop before bursting into a slightly manic mid-section more reminiscent of where Reggie King was headed at the time. And then back again.
Lovely stuff.
The flip was Green, a longer version of which later appeared on Farr's debut solo LP, Take Something With You. It's the better of the two songs and is a dreamy, trembling, late-night selection.
Lush folk pop with dark fringes and wonderfully understated imaginative orchestration subtly present in the mix. Oh, and jazz colorings to boot.
