Dream of the Rarebit Fiend - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 19, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
"Dream of the Rarebit Fiend," played by the Colonial Orchestra (about which I can find nothing) on Phono-Cut 5042-A, probably recorded in 1910. The song, published in 1899 as "The Permans' Brooklyn Cake Walk," was retitled after Winsor McKay's 1904 comic strip of the same name, which also inspired Edwin S. Porter's Edison film of 1906, "Dream of a Rarebit Fiend." Rarebit, a dish consisting of a cheese, ale, mustard, and cayenne sauce served over toast, apparently was the cause of the title character's nightmares.
