DESCRIPTION: Canadian composer and musician, Don Wherry, conceived of a great ambient music experiment. What would music sound like if the environment was the main ingredient of the composition? The Harbour Symphony, conceived of by Don, was composed for ships in the St. John's harbour, and was reliant on the natural reverberation provided by the mountains. For a six mile radius the piece could be heard with vastly different results.
In 1992 Don invited Frank Pahl to compose a Harbour Symphony. This piece is dedicated to him.
Frank Pahl is a lecturer at UM School of Art & Design.
