Midsommarnatt (Traditional Scandinavian Folk Music) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 05, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
Scandinavia has a rich heritage in music, and deep roots in folklore and mythology. 'Midsommarnatt' is a piece of Swedish traditional folk music I composed, inspired by the magical feeling of a midsummer midnight with Mother Nature.

My composition could be described as 'semi-traditional' as it does not follow the tradition super closely through the middle sections of the song in terms of common instruments and chords. It is however based on the very traditional foundation of a fiol (fiddle/violin), nyckelharpa (Swedish keyed harp), dragspel (accordion) and mungiga (Jew's harp).

Traditional Nordic music such as the 'visa', the 'polska' and the 'gammeldans' play a part in almost every Swedish person's life, mainly through our traditional holidays such as midsummer.

Att skriva traditionell svensk folkmusik har aldrig riktigt gått upp för mig förrän nyligen, trots att jag håller den kär. Att axla rollen som speleman var dock otroligt roligt, och någonting jag säkerligen kommer göra igen!
